A Minimal Skincare Routine for Beginners (3 Steps)
The three products almost everyone needs, how to choose them for your skin type, and when to add a fourth.
The three essentials
- Gentle cleanser — removes sunscreen, oil and dirt without leaving skin tight.
- Moisturizer — keeps the barrier healthy; look for Ceramides or Hyaluronic Acid.
- Sunscreen — SPF 30+, broad spectrum, every morning. Mineral filters such as Zinc Oxide suit sensitive skin.
Choosing by skin type
- Oily: gel cleanser, light gel moisturizer, fluid sunscreen.
- Dry: cream cleanser, richer cream, moisturizing sunscreen.
- Sensitive: fragrance-free everything, mineral sunscreen.
Not sure? Start with the bare-face test.
When to add a fourth step
After 2–4 weeks with no irritation, add one treatment for your main concern: Salicylic Acid for blackheads, Niacinamide for shine, Vitamin C for dullness, or Retinol for texture and fine lines.
Use what you already own
You may not need to buy anything new. PoreIQ can build a morning and evening routine from the products already on your shelf and flag combinations to keep apart.
Frequently asked questions
Do I need toner?
Not necessarily. Most modern toners are optional hydrating or exfoliating steps, not a required part of a routine.
